My Daily Routines and Why I Rise at 5am Every Day

There is a saying that you are what you do daily. In other words, if you aspire to greatness always, show acts of kindness and go about your day walking in your purpose and doing your work, craft and doing life the right way, it will reflect in how others see you.

Because I am a firm believer in the importance of lifelong growth and learning, I have certain daily routines that keep me on my path and help me reflect each day.

Believe it or not, for me, rising at 5 am every day is essential to staying on task each day.

At that very early time in the morning, all is still. We do not have the draw and pull of the day’s distractions. Most of my friends, family and colleagues whom I love are usually still asleep.

Could someone survive inside a transporter buffer for 75 years?

At 5 am, there is a stillness. It’s the type of quiet that would imbue you to meditate, pray or have a moment with your thoughts.

The Routine

5:00 Wake, pray, meditate, mentally prep for the day.

7:30 Yoga. I incorporate gentle daily movements each morning.

8:00 Coffee….because my mother always told me that I must start every morning with something warm. Nowadays, this sage advice from my mom is right on par with the suggestions that they give about how to keep the coronavirus away. The mist from the warm drink helps clear my nasal passages. That’s the place where stubborn viruses love to live an incubate.

8:30 I catch up with my social media then start to plan my day by reviewing the accomplishments from the previous day and noting meetings, obligations and tasks on deck for the day. While I’m planning the day; my husband is preparing breakfast for the teen.

9:00 I work continuously for 2 hours and try to minimize distractions by turning off my social media notifications. I try to schedule my meetings in the morning so I am free to have long lunches, take calls with family and or get a walk in or other non-work-related activity in the afternoon before winding down my day.

12:00 Lunch with the husband because I work with my partner and get to incorporate mini dates during the day if our schedules allow.

3:00 I wrap up my work day on outstanding projects and try to end my day by 5:00pm. It’s not the 4 hour work week but when you work for yourself and run your own company, you have quite a bit more responsibility that you cannot delegate to others. However, I do not believe in the 24hr/7 days per week grind. Rest is an essential part of my routine. Rest is where my ideas are whispered to me. I feel blessed and humbled to have been able to have a long lasting, sustainable and scalable business for over two decades.

We have struggled and survived several downturns in the economy and a few administrations and that’s why I round off each day, journaling the day’s experience. Gratitude has been a part of my growth strategy.

This schedule works for me and I do hope it can inspire you too. What are your daily routines? Comment below or ping me on Social Media.
