Today, I celebrated my husband's birthday, the his

Today, I celebrated my husband's birthday, the historic elevation to the second office of the land by a Black woman and child of immigrants and daughter of my alma mater, Howard University.

As I watched and listened to the Inauguration of the 46th president of the United States, I got chills as I took in all the endearing and passionate words of the speakers and the moving performances by the singers.

But it was the words of 22-year old Poet Laureate Amanda Gorman that really stole the show and captured my attention the most.

Within those 5 marvelous minutes, Amanda, who once suffered from a speech impediment, rose to the occasion with elegance and poise as she paid homage to the elected officials ascending to office while acknowledging the magnanimousness of the moment.

"Even as we grieved, we grew," she eloquently recited.

Those 6 words are quite insightful and prolic in the way they encapsulate what we as a nation have gone through. Fortunately, and with the Grace of God, we have come out of strife, anxiety & mourning with more awareness, knowledge and grace.

We have been transformed and have turned loss into glory.

I am hopeful for the future.

The future is Female. The future is Gen Z!

Be.The.Change

For those of you who may not be aware, I recently made an intentional decision to return to one of my favorite passions, writing. I've always maintained a journal of my thoughts, collections of intentions, prayers, mediations, and mantras to keep me going throughout my day.

10 years ago, I used to share some of my personal devotions with readers of my blog, Mum In Motion. It's the name of my Twitter account. I was reviewing some of my past posts the other day and realized that the thoughts that I shared back then are still quite relevant today.

I suppose it is a reminder that life is cyclical, after all.

So, in an attempt to participate in the change by inspiring others with my words, I have reprised the blog on a new website that I recently soft launched which can be found in the link in my bio.

On this second Sunday of the new year, I reflect on how much 2020 left a lot of us mentally and physically exhausted.⁣⁣
⁣⁣
The daily stresses of the pandemic was compounded by the reminder of 2 Americas & our politically divisive climate.⁣
⁣
Though stressed & tired from sleep deprived nights, we wake up & go about our daily rituals.⁣
⁣⁣
Those unsatisfactory nights turned into drowsy days that thwart our creativity. We must stop to rest, breathe deeply, reset our brains and do something that doesn't require thinking or moving.⁣
⁣⁣
In spite of all the challenges 2021 will throw our way; let us all make a commitment to REST! Our minds & bodies need it & above all....
We deserve it ❤⁣

This 1st week of 2021 has been an emotional roller

This 1st week of 2021 has been an emotional roller-coaster. It began with the exciting news that Black Women led by Stacey Abrams once again mobilized the masses of disenfranchised and overlooked citizens & helped them realize and exercise their power in this week's runoff elections in Georgia. Their tenacity and grit, delivered a solid win of 2 new Democrat Senators, Raphael Warnock and Jon Ossoff.

We barely got a chance to savor that moment and bask in the joy when insurrectionists stormed the US Capitol & left without consequence. I looked on in disgust & anger as I remembered the peaceful BLM protesters(marching for a righteous cause) who were met with excessive military force. Looking on well aware that if people who looked like me were involved in such a violent insurrection against the US gov't hundreds would've been harmed, even killed.

A clear confirmation that 2 Americas exist. We went to bed Tuesday joyful & proud about what Black Women accomplished. Only to awake to the painful reminder that 2 systems of justice exist. One for White America(and their white rage) & another for Black America.

Though I'm angry & exhausted today....tomorrow is a new day to fight for the America our future generations deserve. Our ancestors didn't give up!!! Though they didn't know us, they loved us, lived with hope & believed that we deserved a better America ❤ I can't give up. I won't give in!!!
